EUROASPIRE is a multicenter cross-sectional study which is carried out since 1995 by the European Society of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation at regular intervals in various European countries. As part of the fourth study survey, the implementation of the European recommendations regarding secondary preventions for  patients with coronary heart diseases (CHD) as well as improvements in the practice of preventive cardiology compared with EUROASPIRE I-III, are examined. One focus of the fourth survey is also the documentation of an existing glucose intolerance or overt diabetic condition as well as chronic renal failure in patients with coronary heart disease. The German research center for the first three EUROASPIRE surveys was located in Münster. For the fourth survey, Würzburg serves as German center in EUROASPIRE IV. EUROASPIRE IV is a joint project of the German Centre for Heart Failure, the Institute for Clinical Epidemiology and Biometry, the University of Würzburg, the University Hospital Würzburg (Dept.of Cardiothoracic and Thoracic Vascular Surgery, Dept. of Cardiology) and the Dept. of Internal Medicine, Klinik Kitzinger Land.
