Biobank

Biobanks are instrumental for basic and clinical cancer research. Following an informed consent of the patient, they collect and archive high-quality biological samples for research projects, e.g. tumor samples and other tissues and materials that are not needed for diagnostic purposes. These fresh-frozen or formalin-fixed tissues can be provided to the scientific community. As part of the ibdw (Interdisciplinary Bank of Biomaterials and Data Würzburg, see also http://www.ibdw.ukw.de), the repository for solid biomaterials, especially for tumor specimens, is organized by the Institute of Pathology. Banked tissues are available to all CCC MF researchers following approval of the proposed research project by the ibdw Executive Board. For further information please contact Andreas Rosenwald (Institute of Pathology) or go to http://www.ibdw.ukw.de.
