Decoding cytomegalovirus using integrative multi-omics CANCELED

Institute: Institute of Virology and Immunology

Abstract: The human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is a major cause of disease in the immunocompromised but also commonly causes congenital infections. For decades, HCMV was thought to express ≈200 viral proteins during lytic infection. In recent years, systems biology approaches uncovered hundreds of additional viral gene products and thousands of sites of transcription initiation in the large viral DNA genome. In my talk, I will provide an overview on how multiomics approach have revolutionized our understanding of HCMV gene expression in recent years.

Title: mRNA vaccines

Abstract

During the Covid pandemic, mRNA vaccines were used for the first time in humans. This technology promises a wide range of applications for other diseases as well. In my talk, I will present the basic principles of mRNA technology to understand how these vaccines work.  The talk will begin with a brief introduction to the world of vaccines and will cover the current state of knowledge regarding both positive and negative effects of mRNA vaccination.
