Dr. Joseph-Pierre Aboumsallem is currently appointed as a postdoctoral researcher at the experimental cardiology at the Erasmus Medical center, Rotterdam. He was awarded his PhD Degree in Biomedical Sciences from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven). The main focus of his PhD work has been on lipoprotein-targeted and gene therapies for heart failure. He also studied the mechanisms by which phospholipid complexes enhance muscular and vascular regeneration of the heart.

In his current position, he studies  the bidirectional link between cancer and heart failure and the mechanisms by which each of these diseases affects the progression and development of the other (including inflammation, CHIP mutations, extracellular vesicles). In addition, he is establishing a multi-omic approach to identify altered genes, proteins, and metabolites to identify potential therapeutic targets and biomarkers in cardio-oncology.
