Dr. Leo Rasche was awarded the 2022 Artur Pappenheim Prize, which is endowed with 7,500 euros.

In his research, our MSNZ fellow was able to show that the relapse of multiple myeloma patients after an initially successful CAR-T cell therapy could be due to a previously unknown selection and resistance mechanism. The primary therapy is able to successfully recognize and eliminate cancer cells with the surface target structure BCMA. However, the remaining myeloma cells without BCMA have a high survival advantage, allowing them to proliferate and spread rapidly.

These findings are of high importance for the further development of myeloma therapies.

Congratulations to Leo Rasche!
