Support for two MSNZ fellows by the "Forschung hilft" foundation

10/27/2022

The "Forschung hilft" foundation is supporting cancer research at the Julius Maximilians University (JMU). Among the innovative scientific projects awarded this year are two led by MSNZ scientists.

Both MSNZ projects aim to improve the treatment of cancer patients.

20,000 euros were granted to the research team led by Dr. Sophia Danhof. In the project, the team is working on a novel mouse model that will help to better understand the interaction between tumor disease, the immune system and cellular immunotherapies. The findings will serve as a basis for the production of tailored, highly effective immunotherapies with few side effects for subsequent clinical trials.

Multiple myeloma is a malignant subgroup of lymph node cancer. The course of the disease varies greatly from individual to individual, and patients with high-risk genetics have a life expectancy of less than two years. New, highly effective immunotherapies could achieve long-term remissions in this cohort. The research group of Prof. Dr. Martin Kortüm works on cell models that reproduce high-risk myeloma cells. Current immunotherapies - in particular CAR-T cell therapies - will be tested on these models. The project receives a grant of 15,000 euros.

Congratulations and good luck with the projects for Sophia Danhof and Martin Kortüm!
