It is a great pleasure to invite you to the first Joint Winter School “Translational Medicine and Clinical Science” in Würzburg!
The tradition of a Winter School in Würzburg was founded in 2012 in parallel with the establishment of the Section Clinical Science in the Graduate School of Life Sciences (GSLS) as well as the foundation of a Program Clinical Research and Epidemiology for Medical students. The former Winter School “Clinical Epidemiology” focused on challenges of translating clinical research into clinical practice. In 2018, the new program and Master course in “Translational Medicine” funded within the Elite Network of Bavaria started. Thus, we will take the opportunity to cover the whole spectrum of translational medicine within the Winter School including also aspects of early translational research. The new concept of the Winter School will serve as one of the principal components of the teaching and training activities in translational medicine for medical students and young researchers here in Würzburg.
The organization and realization of the Winter School is supported by the Elite Network Bavaria, the Comprehensive Heart Failure Center (CHFC) and the Institute of Clinical Epidemiology and Biometry (ICE-B). The Winter School “Translational Medicine and Clinical Science” will highlight challenges in a timely translation of findings from the basic science into clinical research as well as of results from clinical studies into clinical practice using concrete clinical examples. Within the first Winter School, the rationale of a currently started European Union funded project will be presented addressing the question of appropriate secondary prevention in patients with intracranial hemorrhage and atrial fibrillation.
An internationally recognized faculty including guest speakers from across Germany will give the seminars and lectures. We wish all fellows a successful Winter School and a fruitful and lively discussion among all participants!
