In order to obtain meaningful and valid data, the structured program in SANO is compared with the normal, hence standard care of stroke patients. For this, all participating hospitals are allocated to the different treatment arms in a random manner. Patients in one hospital that take part in the study will then all receive the same intervention. Participating patients can therefore not choose if they are allocated to the control- or the intervention group. However, the participation in either of these groups provides an advantage for the patient since both groups obtain additional medical examinations.
