    Manfred Schartl: Tumor genetics


    Our group is interested in tumor modifier genes, genes that are not involved in the primary processes of neoplastic transformation like oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes but which determine the course of the disease. We use established small laboratory fish models for melanoma to identify and characterize such modifier genes and then evaluate their function in comparative studies in the fish models and in human melanoma biopsies and cell lines.
